 Iguassu Falls - Presentation

Niagara Falls? Definitively not! Those who know the Iguassu Falls, in the city of Iguassu, can see that there nothing the same in size or beauty. Located in the heart of the National Park of Iguassu, 185 thousand hectares, the falls are formed by 275 falls, some more than 70 meters high, that have an enormous flowing off and show the grandiosity of nature before the man.

The beauty of the park deserves the title of a World Heritge Site, given by the UNESCO. Go by on a boat ride less than five meters from the falls or walk along the platforms that cross the waterfalls are some of the ways to admire the marvels of the place.

With so much nature around, Iguassu is a paradise for the travellers who want to practice ecology tourism. Besides observing the waterfalls, the city offers alternatives for othes sports like rafting, rappel, tree climbing and walks along the open trails in the middle of the forest.

Even though it is impossible to think of Iguassu without immediately remembering the famous waterfalls, the city has others options of urban leisure equally interesting. Even though the majority of the tourist travel to the region with the intention of getting to know those that are considered to be the most beautiful waterfalls in the world, there are various options for walks outside of the park.

One of then is the Bird Park (Parque das Aves), an attraction that can not be missed, where various species of birds live in enormous nurseries. Even after being charmed by the marvel of the falls, and if some are interested in seeing a little bit more of the water, it is worth while visiting the Itaipu Dam, the world's largest hydroeletric. Developed by the brazilian and paraguayan government, the dam supplies 80% of the energy consumed in Paraguay and even distribute a good part of the energy that is used in the southern and south-eastern parts of Brazil.

Besides Argentina, Iguassu makes the frontier with Paraguay, therefore it is relatively normal to cross the border to have fun in the casinos in the Ciudad del Este, in the neighboring country. The paraguayan side has also several stores that sell eletronic products, while the argentinian city of Puerto Iguazu is indicated for those who want to buy wool and leather clothes.
